NFL matchday has a long tradition of showcasing fans with crazy and funny signs in the crowd. Supporting your team doesn’t have to be serious, it can be light hearted too. With the 2018-2019 playoffs coming, let’s take a look at some of the most hilarious fan signs we’ve seen at games in the NFL.
Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, has long been a fan favorite in the NFL. Rodgers only won the Super Bowl once in 2010. “If we cannot go to the Super Bowl with Rodgers, let’s go to the Pro Bowl where Rodgers were elected for seven times!”, an optimistic Packers fan said on her sign.
Some of the most desperate fans in football history have been Cleveland Browns fans. Although the Browns can count Elvis Presley as a former fan, they haven’t had a winning record for more than 50 years. They even had 0-16 season in 2016-2017 season! Desperate Browns fans were seen asking “Europe took 16 years to rebuild from WWII. How hard it is to rebuild an NFL team?” Then we have the “Rebuilding since 1964” sign. However, Browns fans must have been much happier this season seeing Baker Mayfield’s performances in the FirstEnergy Stadium.
Everyone loves Las Vegas – with its luxury hotels, casinos and buffets. Well, all except Raiders fans as the Raiders are slated to move to Vegas in 2020 and Oakland fans really don’t want to lose their team - even if they are going through a bit of a rough patch at the moment.
For more than 15 years, the rivalry between two of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, has been one of the most fascinating stories in the sport. Brady led the head-to-head series by 11-6. However, whilst playing for the Broncos, Manning won the only two playoff head-to-head and won the Super Bowl in the same year. Maybe that is why Brady was looked “deflated” against the Broncos.
This one doesn’t come from inside the stadium, but it is still hilarious! For a long time, Philadelphia Eagles fans were unhappy with the team’s performance. One of the things that people can always find in common is some level of disdain for the USPS delivery and Eagles quarterbacks. However, miracle boy - Nick Foles brought back Super Bowl XXXVI. So, now, with both Wentz and Foles, we can say Eagles do finally make delivery on Sundays.
Peyton Manning was drafted as the 1st overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. However, after undergoing surgery which caused him to miss the 2011 season, Manning was released by Colts and signed with the Broncos. Obviously, the Colts made a mistake and fans didn’t want to let them forget it. Manning led the Broncos to win Super Bowl 50 in his final season.
The Browns must be a monopoly in setting the lowest bar in the NFL, or possibly even for any professional sports team. However, it was actually the Detroit Lions that were the first to have a winless 0-16 season in 2008. The Lions slowly crawled out of that rut thanks largely to Matthew Stafford. Now, Lions fans finally can poke some fun at the Browns for joining them in the history books as a 0-16 team.
In the Packers - Cardinals playoff game in 2016, one Vikings fan was found in the crowd in his Vikings purple shirt. He claimed that he bought the ticket right as Blair Walsh was about to kick the game-deciding field goal, which would have led Vikings into the playoffs. Walsh ended up missing the critical kick. I wonder whether he intentionally left out the “H” on his sign to symbolize Walsh’s failure to find the uprights.
In the 1999 NFL draft, Browns drafted Tim Couch as their No.1 overall pick, and he was hyped up to be their savior at the time. However, unfortunately, his name joined an ever-growing list of names that failed to live up to their billing. Now, it seems Mayfield might finally end the long, sad list of failures as the Browns do have a chance for playoffs this season!
You must be familiar with the longest-one-yard story in Super Bowl XLIX. Well, Patriots fans are keen on mocking the Seattle Seahawks decision to pass the ball with 27 seconds on the clock and one yard to go. Maybe a handoff to let Marshawn Lynch run the beast mode could have secured a Super Bowl victory. But, instead of juicing up Lynch with some of his favorite Skittles, Wilson passed the ball and the rest is history…
Many NFL teams are named after animals. So, the fans had a great idea. Do Panthers eat Cardinals? We don’t know for sure, but surely it can’t be a co-incidence that the game ended with a Panthers’ victory on October 31, 2016.
Fans are also creative when they are disappointed. The Jacksonville Jaguars have a less than 500 all-time winning percentage, which is the fourth worst amongst all NFL teams. No wonder the fans pessimistically call it “just another garbage season”.
John Fox’s coaching career at the Chicago Bears was quite sad. He achieved one of the worst records in the team history (14-34). Fans were desperate to have him fired after the Bears had three straight seasons finishing last in NFC North. Now, we have the “Fire Fox” sign with a simple Firefox internet browser logo in the stands. Simple and brilliant!
Washington Redskins won Super Bowls XVII, XXII and XXVI. Since then though, the Redskins haven’t given their fans many reasons to celebrate. Maybe a history class should be taught to all those Redskins fans born after 1992.
Dak Prescott was drafted in the 2016 NFL Draft in the fourth round by the Cowboys. The initial idea was to let Dak develop behind Tony Romo. Things suddenly changed when Tony Romo suffered an injury in a preseason game and Dak became a starter in the 2016 season. Dak performed amazingly in that season and was elected to Pro Bowl the same year. Cowboys fans did not miss Romo at all, because they have Dak Prescott.
Drew Brees broke Brett Farve’s NFL record for most career completions in 2016. No wonder why New Orleans fans choose him over Trump or Hillary.
